Ayah 20

Surah Al-Mulk, Ayah 20

Reflection Questions:

1. Who could protect us from Allah’s punishment? This shows Allah’s complete MULK; we don’t even have control over our safety.
2. Who can protect us from our enemies?
3. Are we deluded in believing that other than Allah can help us?

Practical tips:

1. Read the morning and evening adzkar for protection.
2. Always ask Allah for help. People can be a means for us to get help but ultimately help is from Allah.

And when those who disbelieved devised plans against you that they might confine you or slay you or drive you away; and they devised plans and Allah too had arranged a plan; and Allah is the best of planners.
[8:30]

On the authority of Abu Abbas Abdullah bin Abbas (RA) who said:
One day I was behind the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) [riding on the same mount] and he said, “O young man, I shall teach you some words [of advice]: Be mindful of Allah and Allah will protect you. Be mindful of Allah and you will find Him in front of you. If you ask, then ask Allah [alone]; and if you seek help, then seek help from Allah [alone]. And know that if the nation were to gather together to benefit you with anything, they would not benefit you except with what Allah had already prescribed for you. And if they were to gather together to harm you with anything, they would not harm you except with what Allah had already prescribed against you. The pens have been lifted and the pages have dried.”
[Tirmidhi]

'Uthman bin 'Affan (RA) reported:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "He who recites three times every morning and evening: 'Bismillahil-ladhi la yadurru ma'as-mihi shai'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i, wa Huwas-Sami'ul-'Alim (In the Name of Allah with Whose Name there is protection against every kind of harm in the earth or in the heaven, and He is the All-Hearing and All- Knowing),' nothing will harm him."
[Abu Dawud and At- Tirmidhi].
